Fifty-five acres of wonderful floral display are open to the public, offering spectacular views from the many paths that meander through the four main gardens. In 1904, Jennie Butchart began to beautify a worked-out quarry site left behind from her husband's pioneering efforts in the manufacture of portland cement.

The family's commitment to horticulture and hospitality spans 100 years, and continues to delight visitors from all over the world. From the exquisite Sunken Garden to the charming Rose Garden, the gracious traditions of the past are still maintained in one of the loveliest corners in the world.

The Blethering Place

A visit to this authentic British Tea Room, The Blethering Place is reminiscent of the tea rooms that flourished in England and New Zealand in the Thirties and Forties. Here, you may enjoy tea in the traditional manner.

You will find Victorians enjoying moments of "Blethering" in a setting of lace curtains, aprons and flowers. Billy Bunter, The Beano and Biggles, Enid Blyton, Golliwogs and Churchill welcome you,...all nestled in the heart of a charming English village, just seven minutes from Victoria's inner harbour.

The Galloping Goose Trail

Part of the Trans Canada Trail which traverses the country, the Galloping Goose and Peninsula Trails form one of the most picturesque trail systems in Canada. Dedicated in 1989, the Galloping Goose Trail is named for a gawky and noisy gas rail-car which carried passengers between Victoria and Sooke in the 1920's.

The first rail tracks were laid on Island soil in 1893, with the opening of the Victoria and Sidney line. That was followed by the Vancouver Island section of the Canadian National Railway dedicated in 1911, and by the B.C. Electric in 1913. You can travel for nearly 60 kilometers on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. You can cycle, walk, or ride a horse along this former rail line past some of B.C.’s finest scenery.
